Over 400 episodes and counting. Other shows come and go but The Simpsons never get old. What is the reason for the success?

I think it’s the viewer base, the massive merchandising, and creator Matt Groening’s creativity.
According to the episode “The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular”, from way back in season 7, the show will continue “until it is no longer profitable”.
Oh, and the Simpsons Movie helped as well. And that as of season 21, which begins in September, it will have become the longest-running prime time series in TV history, surpassing Gunsmoke.

because its lighthearted and fun. and cartoons are mind numbing.
