Decline? Season 19 was an all time low but it’s been doing nothing but picking up since then.

1999. They took a lot of the writers over to Futurama. That ended up diluting both shows and neither recovered.

They also kept a lot of good ideas and lines for the movie, which you have to admit was pretty good, but it takes away from the regular season.

The quality of the Simpsons has never really declined, but I think that show is really starting to run its course. That family has experienced just about every situation that could possibly happen in the world, and has been to almost every place in their travels. How many more story ideas are they going to come up with? After 20 seasons, you start wondering all this.

I think one or two more seasons, and it will be time for this family to ride off into the sunset. On a high note, that is.

After about 5 or so episodes into Season 11 (about a couple of months before the year 2000) the show drove into the mess it’s in now. It’s almost as if Matt Groening and team caught the millenium bug.

Funnily enough, it was around this time that South Park became brilliant. Kind of like a displacement reaction.

Another interesting fact: on wikipedia, they don’t even bother to make ‘good’ articles for Simpsons episodes after Season 10, whereas every single article for every episode before Season 11 has been certified by the website as ‘good’.
