Well, as you said, there is no real translation for the word, even though it has appeared in the Oxford English Dictionary. It is very likely that they just translate to whatever word they can, like no. So I guess it would be the Spanish, Italian etc words for no, or at least something like that. Though I would have thought they’d just leave it as “d’oh.” That’s what they normally do with words that have yet to be officically translated. Come to think of it, whenever I’ve seen foreign translated episodes it is just “d’oh.”

Oh yeah, you misspelled it. It’s spelt “d’oh.” The apostrophe goes after the “d.”

In Italian it’s just “d’oh!”, like in English!

the origin of d’oh, not a translation but…

in the script it called for an “annoyed grunt”. i once heard the voice of homer, Dan Castellaneta describe the term d’oh as someone about to say “damn” them abruptly correcting himself for the sake of children being around. that bit (biting ones tounge before saying damn) is from a sitcom that is way before my time but if you watch enough simpsons dvd’s with the commentary on the awnser will reveal itself.

I’m not sure about other languages but in the Spanish version of The Simpsons they also say d’oh.

Grats you got ask mike question. It’s really the same thing, considering the simpson owner invented the word. The german reason is because Do’h is supposed to somewhat mean “No. ” Because of this, it was decided they would make it the closest as possible
