They revamped the whole intro after the movie, or rather season 19. Check wikipedia for exact dates it you need them.

The better question is why did the Simpsons started to have a flat screen in the intro? Did the writers thought that just because they make a few upgrades to the technology the Simpsons characters use, it will get them higher ratings? The old intro was much better, and their previous TV was better than their new flat piece of crap. Anyways I think the episode was the one where The Simpsons go to Ireland so that Homer’s dad can have one last drink at his favorite bar, where they began to use the new intro.

Season 20: Episode 430 – “Take My Life, Please”, originally aired February 15, 2009

It was the first episode in High Definition so the opening was changed to reflect that. I kind of like the new openig cause in addition to the chalkboard and couch gag, they will have to come up with a new billboard joke from time to time.
