The exact same thought that “Grimey” had.

But it’s probably because Homer picks up several jobs like being the Mayor’s Bodyguard, an Astronaut, a Singer, etc. He must’ve picked up a fair amount of money to pay for that stuff

In a flashback episode it shows the younger grandpa selling his house so that the younger Homer can buy a house when Marge gets pregnant with Lisa. Grandpa was supposed to live with them but he got shipped out to the nursing home soon after.

Haha he has worked alot of jobs but also he keeps refinancing in the last season he actually lost the house and flanders brought it for him. And the house is a piece of junk there is always something broken!
